Hey there!
Its been quite a while since we've chatted, how are you?! Life has been super busy recently, I think it would have been February that I last published a post and we are in August now, so I have so much to update you all on!
Back in March I began my first placement. I am doing a BA(hons) degree in Primary and Early Years Education, and so my placement was only meant to be one day a week for eight weeks. I was lucky enough to be at a school very local to me and after the 8 weeks was over, I was invited to stay on until the end of the school year. I had absolutely the best time and had so many wonderful experiences. I was able to take part in a parent's evening, pancake racing, lot of trips to local experience days, and a transition day, just to name a few. The class were challenging, but very rewarding to work with, many of them had never had a full year in school because of the COVID pandemic, but they all taught me so much, and the school staff were just amazing, which makes all the difference when you are a student on placement! I was in the class on school picture day meaning I was part of the class photo, which the class gifted me on my last day (tears were shed on my behalf!). I really think this is the most difficult part of teaching, teaching a class of 30 each year, building up those relationships with them, and then having to leave them at the end of the year!
I am now officially a third year student which is absolutely insane! I have finished my second year averaging a first which I am immensely proud of, especially as towards the end of the year, there were a few challenges, with lecturers going long term sick! I had such a brilliant second year, being able to go onto campus more often to make up for lost time with my pals on my course! I am so excited for third year, where most of my sessions will be in person, so I finally get to enjoy university. I have chosen to study and English, Science and Math's module which will hopefully give me a HUGE boost for my PGCE year, and I can't wait to share the journey of this year with you all!
And now to enjoy the summer! Back in December 2021 when I was isolating with COVID, I put together a bucket list of things I wanted to do this year. I have been busy this summer beavering away at it. So far I have managed to tick off watching the sunset, going to the beach and swimming in the sea, but I have lots of plans to tick off toasting marshmallows, and making home made pizza in the coming weeks! I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks of just enjoying myself and spending time with all of my pals, before third year begins!
I am making it my aim to get this blog back up and running properly this year, it is an outlet for me to come to after a busy day, but also holds so many lovely memories of everything I write about too! Have a lovely rest of the summer, and good luck all of you either returning to, or starting out in the classroom in September!
